COVID-19 Update - CHYSC Fall Soccer Programs

Dear CHYSC Members,

We are going to move ahead and begin planning for our fall travel and intramural soccer seasons.

Intramural soccer registration now open.  Here is the link to register:

Travel soccer registration is now closed.   If you have a child who still wants to play travel soccer, please reach out to Jody Greenblatt, our travel soccer commissioner.

Please read the letter below from Jody Greenblatt,  CHYSC Travel Soccer Commissioner, regarding plans for the Fall 2020 travel season.

Dear Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Club families,

I hope this email finds you well.

It may seem strange given the uncertainty in the world, but we are opening registration for travel soccer. Our local soccer organization, ICSL, is planning for the fall season which requires us to register teams and get ready for fall. This email is lengthy, but I ask that you read it in its entirety.

I wanted to highlight a few things.

1. We know there may not be a soccer season.

2. We understand that families may be experiencing financial difficulties

3. We know that many players were looking forward to tryouts to move from White to Blue

Tryouts: Given the current environment, I had a meeting with the travel soccer committee (comprised of coaches and other volunteers). We decided that there will be no tryouts for the 2020-2021 soccer season. If you had a place on a team last year, you will have a place on the same team this year, assuming we have the numbers to field that team. This is why registering ASAP is crucial. We need time to look at numbers and to evaluate where there may be gaps.

We are developing a procedure for dealing with instances where there may be an open slot on a Blue team and for new players. I ask that at this time, you give us a few weeks to determine whether there are spots before asking that your child be given the opportunity to move to Blue. If numbers are low on a team we are also looking at consulting with other area soccer clubs to fill out rosters.

Registration fees:  We are keeping registration at the same cost as last year. When you register you will have the option to pay in full or pay in two installments. It's important to note that CHYSC still has to pay ICSL when we register. If the season is cancelled, we will refund the costs of registration. We have not yet determined how a partial season will be addressed.

Uniforms: CHYSC moved to a new uniform company prior to basketball season. Unfortunately they do not carry our existing travel soccer uniform. I have been working with to choose a new uniform. There will also be a "spirit store" that allows you to purchase warm ups and other items that can be personalized. The uniform will actually cost less than the old uniform and will be shipped directly to your home. We recognize that this is not the best time to require new uniforms, but this was in the works prior to the pandemic.

If your family needs financial assistance with either registration or uniforms, feel free to contact me at  or the CHYSC president, Ken Flaxman at

Thinking about and planning for the travel soccer season has been a nice distraction for me. I am hoping with all that I have that our children get to play and be on the pitch with their friends with their families cheering them on. I'm committed to doing everything needed to prepare.

As always, I welcome any questions or concerns.

Stay safe!

Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Club

The Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Club (CHYSC) was founded in 1962 as The Chestnut Hill Fathers Club. The club name was changed in 2001 to better reflect the mission of the club.  We are a community organization of over fifteen hundred families devoted to providing team sports for our children. Although the large majority of our members are from Mt.Airy and Chestnut Hill, they also reside in various nearby communities including Germantown, Roxborough, Oak Lane, Whitemarsh, Erdenheim, Lafayette Hill, Wyndmoor, Flourtown and Oreland. Men, women, parents and non-parents, of all ages and ethnic, racial and social backgrounds volunteer to coach the teams, run the leagues, and administer the club. Their time and dedication benefit an equally diverse group of thirteen hundred children who live or go to school in the Northwest Philadelphia community.
