Intramural Soccer Letter 2024

Dear Families,

Registration is now open for CHYSC’s Fall 2024 Intramural Soccer Season! After an awesome and robust 2023 season, we are anticipating an even stronger one this year with greater numbers of area children participating at all age levels come September.  We have spent the last year fine-tuning and preparing for this blockbuster season and can’t wait to get out on the pitch with all of your kids. Below you will find details that will help make enrolling your kids as easy as possible.

IN GENERAL

The CHYSC Intramural Program promotes a fun and structured environment for players to be introduced to the fundamentals of soccer.  With the multitude of schools that serve Northwest Philadelphia and the surrounding communities, it is a wonderful way for children to meet and get to know new friends and neighbors.

The youngest leagues are for 4, 5, and 6-year-old boys and girls. These leagues are focused on drills and games that help introduce the game of soccer in a fun, energetic, age-appropriate way with the intention of developing the skills that will help kids develop into dedicated soccer players. This age group will play every Saturday during sessions that include skill development and game-play.

For kids between ages seven and eleven, the club offers separate leagues for girls and boys where players can expand on and hone their talents with more competitive structured play, including weekly refereed games. This age group will participate in one-weekday practice and one Saturday game each week. Our ten and eleven year olds also have the opportunity to play in “cross town friendlies” against Upper Dublin and Hunter Soccer Club. This has been an awesome experience for this age group and has been universally touted as a great bonus experience!

These age groups are followed by U15 Coed and U18 Coed which cover middle school through senior year of high school and strive for a social atmosphere in an enjoyably competitive environment. These teams also will participate in one weekday practice and one game every Saturday.

No matter their age, no experience is necessary. CHYSC welcomes all skill levels to our intramural program and there is no time like now for your kids to get to know this sport played around the world!

AGE GROUPS (U stands for Under, meaning U8 is seven year olds, U10 is eight and nine year olds, etc)

VOLUNTEERS, VOLUNTEERS, VOLUNTEERS!

CHYSC is an all-volunteer-run organization. Every team must have at least one volunteer parent coach! We are always looking and in need of parents who are willing and interested in coaching in all of our age divisions.  No experience is required, just a commitment to working with and supporting our energetic youth. The time commitment is no more than 2 ½ hours per week. Again, this year we are very excited to offer two coach trainings before the season begins, provided by our Head of Soccer Development, Brendan May. Brendan has decades of experience in coaching as well as in training youth coaches and will provide concrete, thoughtful guidance and clear written materials that will assist you through the entire season. With the support of Brendan and your Commissioner, parent volunteers will be given all of the tools they need to run practices and games throughout the season including coaching manuals and links to video content. Summer training session times and locations will be announced by early June.

Please note that in order to coach any team (regardless of age, season or sport) for CHYSC, you must have all of the requisite clearances by the start of the season. When you register as a coach on CHYSC’s website, you will be guided through the process of obtaining clearances (if you do not already have them), and of uploading them to our site. If you have not recently completed clearances (Federal, Pennsylvania and Child Abuse), I highly recommend that you obtain your clearances soon in order to allow for plenty of time for completion of the process.

SPECTATOR POLICY

Our sports club is committed to creating a safe and positive environment for all our young athletes during sporting events. It has come to our attention that instances of inappropriate adult behavior have occurred, which is unacceptable and goes against the core values of our organization. Therefore, we have developed a strict policy to address and prevent any further incidents of this nature.

Inappropriate adult behavior includes, but is not limited to:

  • Verbal abuse or harassment directed at players, coaches, officials, or other spectators.
  • Physical altercations or aggressive behavior that can cause harm or discomfort to others.
  • Use of offensive language, gestures, or any form of discriminatory behavior.
  • Disrespectful conduct towards the opposing team, officials, or any other individual involved in the event.
  • To uphold the integrity and safety of our sporting events, we have implemented the following guidelines:

Zero-Tolerance Policy: Any form of inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

  • Immediate Removal: Any adult found engaging in inappropriate behavior will be asked to leave the premises and may face further consequences, including potential suspension from future events.
  • Reporting Mechanism: We encourage individuals to report any incidents of inappropriate behavior to the designated event officials or club management immediately.
  • Education and Awareness: We will conduct regular educational sessions and raise awareness about respectful conduct and the importance of positive sportsmanship among all participants and spectators.

We firmly believe that fostering a culture of respect, sportsmanship, and positivity is paramount in the development of our young athletes. We expect all adults associated with our club to uphold these values and serve as positive role models for our youth.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants.

Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Club

The Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Club (CHYSC) was founded in 1962 as The Chestnut Hill Fathers Club. The club name was changed in 2001 to better reflect the mission of the club.  We are a community organization of over fifteen hundred families devoted to providing team sports for our children. Although the large majority of our members are from Mt.Airy and Chestnut Hill, they also reside in various nearby communities including Germantown, Roxborough, Oak Lane, Whitemarsh, Erdenheim, Lafayette Hill, Wyndmoor, Flourtown and Oreland. Men, women, parents and non-parents, of all ages and ethnic, racial and social backgrounds volunteer to coach the teams, run the leagues, and administer the club. Their time and dedication benefit an equally diverse group of thirteen hundred children who live or go to school in the Northwest Philadelphia community.
