Travel Soccer Home – Commissioner, Brendan May
The mission of the CHYSC Travel Soccer Program is to provide boys and girls with the opportunity to acquire and develop individual and team skills through higher levels of competition, in an atmosphere that encourages FUN, sportsmanship and teamwork. The Travel Soccer Program provides players with an opportunity to compete against similarly skilled players in other local clubs. Our travel teams compete in the Inter County Soccer League (“ICSL” or “Intercounty”) which includes teams from other clubs located primarily in Philadelphia, Montgomery and Bucks counties.
The Club focuses on player development, rather than just winning individual games — especially in the younger ages — with the goal of developing skilled players who can compete effectively on the field. The primary focus of the program is to teach the game of soccer, grounding players in the skills, tactics and strategies of the game while fostering a love for the sport.
There have been significant changes to age groups and format for this year’s program, due to initiatives from US Soccer. Detail can be found here.
CHYSC typically fields teams in age groups from U9 through U14. For the 2016-2017 season, we expect to field about 16 travel teams in total comprised of both girls and boys teams. All our travel teams are affiliated with the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association (“EPYSA”, www.epysa.org) within Region 1 of the United States Youth Soccer Association (“USYSA”). Players are expected to play in their age appropriate group. (See this page for an explanation of age groupings). Per EPYSA regulations, all players must submit a copy of their birth certificate to show their proper age.
Tryouts are held in the spring (likely April) for the fall Travel season.
Many teams choose to compete in a pre-season tournament the weekend of Labor Day. League play starts the following weekend and continues until the 2nd weekend of November. The season culminates with the two-day “Hempfield Fall Classic” tournament in Lancaster the weekend preceding Thanksgiving. This is an overnight trip attended by Travel Program players and family members and is a highlight of the Travel Program.
