CHESTNUT HILL GIRLS’ LACROSSE SPRING 2010

Season Start Info – March 27

1st-2nd GRADE

SCHEDULE & LOCATION: We'll start our season on Sunday, April 11th at New Covenant Church front lawn, Germantown Avenue and Cresheim Valley Drive, across from the Trolley Car Diner. Park along Germantown Ave. or pull into the NCC campus and park in the first lot on your right. If that's full, pull up to the next lot on your right - please do not park along the driveway. Practices will be every Sunday in April and May, 2:00 to 3:30pm (except for Easter and Memorial Day weekend). We're also hoping to line up a playday or two with other local clubs toward the end of the season or the first week in June.

We'll have a very brief meeting with the parents the first Sunday to review the season and answer questions. You are welcome to stay during each practice, but you do not need to - the girls will be in very good hands with our coaches.

COACHES & TEAMS: Parent Brandi McLaughlin will be coordinating the practice sessions. Our coaches are varsity high school lacrosse players from GFS, Penn Charter and Springside. We will be teaching basic skills of catching, passing, shooting and ground ball pickup. We will do drills for the first month and will gradually work up to intrasquad playdays. We don't have formal teams as in T-ball or soccer - the girls form groups and rotate through different stations.

PLAYDAYS: We expect to participate in one or two playdays against other local clubs toward the end of the season.

EQUIPMENT: Girls should bring the following weekly:

We use soft balls designed for beginners, but they can still get hit in the face accidentally by sticks; hence the eye and mouth protection. We're asking our older girls who have outgrown their equipment to pass it down, so we're hoping to have a few used sticks available.

UNIFORMS: The Club will provide T-shirts (see uniform policy below).

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Once we start, please encourage them to practice at home. Don't let them get frustrated - it takes a while for newcomers to get the hang of it. Parents or older siblings can help out at home by playing catch with their daughters using a soft lacrosse ball or tennis ball, and a baseball glove.

3rd-4th GRADE

SCHEDULE & LOCATION: We'll begin our season Saturday, April 3, 9:00 to 10:30 at Carson Valley School. This will be our regular meeting time and location every Saturday morning in April and May (see directions and rules below), except Memorial Day weekend. Weekday practices will begin Thursday, April 8 and will continue weekly through June 3rd, 6:00 to 7:30 at Germantown Friends School athletic fields in East Falls. The entrance is off of Midvale Avenue, just west of Wissahickon Avenue (not the same Wissahickon Avenue as Carson Valley). There is a small parking lot adjacent to the fields.

COACHES & TEAMS: Head coach Cheryl Bruttomesso (cbrutto13@aol.com) is returning to coach and organize this age group. She has lined up several parents per team to assist. We decided not to enter the PAGLA league this year. Rather than travel to away games against other clubs, Cheryl will be dividing the girls into groups of equal number and ability to play games against each other on Saturday mornings.

PLAYDAYS: We expect to enter two teams in the Abington Playday on Saturday, May 8th and are organizing our own playday on Sunday, May 16th. There is also a PAGLA Playday in late May or early June.

EQUIPMENT: Girls should bring a girls’ stick, protective eyewear (cage, goggle or visor style), mouthguard and water bottle to every practice and game. We have some discount coupons for Dick's Sporting Goods, and Chestnut Hill Sports offers a 10% discount for club members. Soccer cleats are preferred footwear, but tennis shoes are OK. There is no need for lacrosse-specific shoes if your daughter also plays soccer. We will supply balls.

UNIFORMS: The Club will supply jerseys, in different colors for each team (see uniform policy below).

5th-6th GRADE

SCHEDULE & LOCATION: We'll begin our season this Tuesday, March 30, 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Carson Valley School (see directions and rules below). Practices will continue on Tuesday and Thursdays at the same time until the first week in June. There is no practice Saturday, April 3. We have entered an “A” and “B” team in the PAGLA girls’ lacrosse league, and each will play an 8-10 game schedule, including travel to away games against area clubs (Council Rock, Horsham, Upper Dublin, Souderton, Springfield, etc.) Most games will be on Saturdays, with occasional Thursday evening games. Games should begin Saturday, April 10 - game schedule will be posted as soon as it becomes available.

PLAYDAYS: We expect to enter the Abington Playday, Saturday, May 8, and the PAGLA Playday, Sunday, June 6th.

CANCELLATIONS DUE TO WEATHER (ALL GRADES)
We will do our best to notify you in advance if the fields are unplayable or if heavy rain or thunderstorms are forecast. When in doubt, check the home page of the club's website at www.chysc.org for notices. You may also be notified by email.

CARSON VALLEY DIRECTIONS & RULES (GRADES 3-8)

DIRECTIONS to Carson Valley: The Carson Valley School in located in Flourtown. The school entrance is on W. Wissahickon Avenue, between Bethlehem Pike and Stenton Avenue, across from the entrance to Mt. Saint Joseph's Villa. Turn at the Carson Valley Children's Aid sign and make your first left. Park in the red gravel lot and walk down the drive to the fields on your right. IF that lot is full, continue along the entrance drive, past the fields until you reach a small circle. Bear right at the circle into the parking lot, next to the tennis court. Park and walk the short distance through the trees to the fields.

CARSON VALLEY RULES: Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Club is fortunate to share two fields with Springside School on the Carson Valley grounds. There are several common-sense rules that CV expects us to follow:

1. DO NOT pull into the first driveway on your right as you enter to either park, drop off or pick up your kids.
2. DO NOT bring pets - Carson Valley does not allow them on their grounds.
3. Instruct your kids to pick up any trash or empty water bottles that they bring, and ask them to be sure to pick up any clothing or gear that they brought with them.
4. The only bathrooom facility available is a port-a-potty, so please take that into consideration before you leave home.

UNIFORM POLICY (ALL GRADES)

1st and 2nd graders receive T-shirts that are theirs to keep. They are welcome, but not required, to wear them to practice. T-shirts must be worn to playdays.
All other age groups will be issued uniforms that belong to the Club. Girls are expected to wear them to all games and playdays, keep them in good condition and return them to their coach after the final game or playday of the season. We expect to re-use them next year.
